Lighthouse contemplates different stages of human intervention with the landscape in a historical and industrial context. It refers formally to Newcastle’s coal monument in Parnell Place. Four of the berths will be used to respond in a very material way to the mixed use of the Port – the installation identifies the working mechanisms and natural elements of the harbour. The cube form is the central axis of the work, it is immersive in the day (walk in and view different framed landscapes of the harbour) and a lantern or lighthouse at night.
