This installation interrogates a contested site of private development and public space. In particular, the team have explored the idea of the panopticon with it’s associations of power and observation. The installation includes several structures that provide refuge from the corresponding apartment buildings built up around the beach. Each refuge will be placed in direct sightline of the corresponding apartment block with the sixth refuge partly constructed awaiting the development of the Royal site.
“We hope to invert the relationship on site, returning ownership of the space to the public.”
