Second Nature

Nicola Xavier and Adrian Hill

Site: 195 King Street

This project intends to express a random appearance of a nature scene within a structured and controlled environment. The design is inspired by artist and social commentator William Morris. The installation is a large-scale solid framed structure using geo-fabric normally used for moisture retention and erosion control. The fabric is stencilled with a Morris wallpaper design impregnated with wheatgrass seed and watered daily. Over the period of the exhibition the grass grows through and over the design.

“By imitating nature in void and desolate spaces we can invigorate and liven urban living.”
